Partial coverage

Check a Greek company – current coverage

For Greek companies, we validate EU VAT numbers through VIES and look for conflicts across company identity, domain, messages and payment.

Your input stays in this browser until the private check form opens.

Official source

VIES; GEMI not yet connected

Accepted identifiers

  • Greek VAT number (AFM, EL prefix in VIES)
  • Company name, website, contacts and IBAN

Checks performed

What the result can verify

  • EU VAT validity through VIES, including GR-to-EL conversion
  • Domain, HTTPS, DNS and contact details
  • Consistency across the offer, documents and payment instructions

Country-specific risks

Signals worth checking

  • The Greek VAT number uses an invalid format or fails VIES
  • The verified name conflicts with the invoice or terms
  • Payment goes to an account with no evidenced link to the company

Before payment

Practical next steps

  1. Submit the AFM with an EL or GR prefix together with the URL and invoice
  2. Compare the VIES result with the seller's name and address
  3. Stop payment if the company-to-account link cannot be evidenced

Questions and answers

Checking a company in Greece

Why does VIES use the EL prefix for a Greek VAT number?

VIES uses EL for Greece. VerifyBeforeBuy also recognises the commonly entered GR prefix and converts it for validation.

Do you check the Greek GEMI register?

Not automatically. Public search exists, but without approved production API access we do not report it as a performed check.

Coverage limitation

Public GEMI search exists, but we do not have approved official API access for production automation. The result therefore reports partial coverage.
